Bridal makeup tips

Start prepping your skin

If you're not yet into a regular skin care routine, now is the best time to start one. Having a daily skincare routine will make a big difference on your big day.

For one, a regular skin care routine will prevent any sudden change in your skin texture during the wedding day. Most brides make the big mistake of using a particular product or tan scale the night before their wedding.

This, in most cases, ruins the makeup the next day either because the skin texture changes and no longer blends well with the makeup or they develop a flaming skin reaction that will be difficult to conceal.

In any case, it's always best you start having your facials and prepping your skin a few months before the wedding. While in the prepping stage, you should drink a lot of water to keep your body hydrated.

For most experts, dry, scaly skin is the most difficult to work with as such drinking plenty of water, and using a moisturizer regularly will help keep your skin hydrated.

Do a trial run

Schedule a trial makeup at least 2-3 weeks before the big day. If you plan to apply the makeup yourself, you might want to get into the habit of trying out and perfecting the technique a few weeks before the wedding day.

And if you plan on having someone else handle the makeup, then make sure you have a trial run with them at least 2-3 times before the actual day. This way, they become used to your skin texture and topography.

If you plan to have a tan on your wedding day or using any other product, they should be included in your trial run as well. This way, you'll get an idea of what will work or not as well as the product that your skin might have a harsh reaction with.

Get as many samples as possible

It doesn't matter whether you will have a pro over to do your makeup for you on that day or if you're doing it yourself.
Get as many samples as possible.

This will give you or your makeup artist some other ideas, and you just might find something more suiting than the makeup idea you already have in mind.

Wear a shirt similar to the color of your wedding dress

On the day of your wedding, your makeup will be sitting against your wedding dress, and if you're doing the wedding indoor, the makeup will also be seated against the lighting.

As such, it is often best to mimic the style of your wedding dress and the expected environment as close as possible. This is because lighting and the color of your dress will affect the way people see the makeup on your face.

So when you're having your trial run put on a shirt that’s similar in color to your wedding dress and take a photo with your flash off. See the picture, and if you like what you see, then feel free to follow your heart.

Go for individual false lashes

Most times makeup is all about highlighting your eyes or your lips. If you choose to go for the eyes then its best you go for individual false lashes.

Individual false lashes give a brilliant shine to your eyes and are a lot more subtle than others. You should go for individual false eyelashes with differing length as those tend to look more natural and compact compared to those with the same length.

Aim for looking like yourself

Your wedding time is not a time for experimenting. You should aim more for makeups that will look like your natural self.

Your spouse and family members already know what you look like without any makeup on.

They are already comfortable with whom you are, and as such you don't have to put on a new makeup that changes you instead you should be focusing on a makeup idea that brings out your natural beauty.

Aim for a glowing skin

Glowing skin is a lot better than a shiny one. Shiny makeups often end up looking bad in pictures because they tend to reflect light.

As such, you should aim for a makeup that makes your skin glow instead of shiny.

To control the shine of a makeup, dust a little translucent powder on your chin, forehead, and side of the nose.

This will leave a glowing skin behind that will not reflect light in your pictures.

Waterproof mascara is not an option

Weddings are emotional events – even if you're not the crying type, its best you're prepared than leaving the fate of your makeup to chances.

Use a waterproof mascara to prevent your makeup from getting ruin if you end up shedding those beautiful tears due to rare bonding/emotional moments.

Keep the basics close at hand

After all is said and done, you can only go so far to, but you can keep your makeup perfect at all times.

A brush here and a kiss there and your perfect look is ruin for the rest of the day.

To keep that from happening, prepare a special kit for your maid of honor to carry with her at all times.

This way you can easily make a retouch at any time, and you won't have to worry all the time.

Above everything else, aim to be yourself on that day and have as much fun as possible – after all the big day might come just once for you. Happy married life in advance!
